STILL TAKING A KNEE: Colin Kaepernick Honoured

By Published December 06, 2017

Take a knee protester Colin Kaepernick has been honoured with Eason Monroe Courageous Advocate Award at the America Civil Liberties Union ACLU of Southern California’s annual Bill of Rights Dinner.

Receiving the award to a standing ovation, Kaepernick said, “We all have an obligation no matter the risk, and regardless of reward, to stand up for our fellow men and women who are being oppressed with the understanding that human rights cannot be compromised.”

Despite NFL snub, Kaepernick’s profile has been on the rise - he is on the list of potential Time magazine’s Person of the Year for 2017, he received sports Illustrated Muhammad Ali Legacy Award and named GQ’s Person of the Year.

Kaepernick last played for the San Francisco 49ers in 2016 before opting out of his contract and became a free agent. NFL owners snubbed him after white patrons considered his one man’s protest, which included kneeling during the national anthem, to be un-American.
